"Key Code in use" when trying to join a MP Server (COD4)

When trying to join an Multiplayer game you get an "Error, Key code in use" message.

IF YOU HAVE PREVIOUSLY JOINED A MULTIPLAYER GAME SUCCESSFULLY:

The 'CD key in use' error message displays when your serial number is still bound to a previously played server. Your router and the server host will bind your key and cause conflicts when trying to join another game.

Be sure that your computer is not behind a software or hardware firewall of any kind. This includes firewalls built into routers or other equipment. Aspyr does not support the use of our games from behind a firewall. If it is not possible to disable the firewall you will need to open the ports for Call of Duty 2 and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Call of Duty 4 and 2 transmit and receive network traffic on port 28960 (UDP/TCP). The exact details on opening a port is specific to your firewall. For more information check with the firewall documentation or manufacturer.

IF YOU HAVE NOT PREVIOUSLY JOINED A MULTIPLAYER GAME SUCCESSFULLY (mostly occurs with the App Store releases of Call of Duty 2 and 4):

Please delete the com.aspyr.callofduty4.plist/com.aspyr.callofduty2.plist file from User/Library/Preferences to reset your cd key. >p>Be advised that if you delete this file, it WILL RESET STATS AND RANKINGS, so we advise that you only do this if you do not mind having these reset.

Hi,

Just for info:

I recently bought the game on the appstore and encountered the same problem.

But I think I solved it.

Actually, the very first time I wanted to go multiplayer, there was no problem at all. Perfect.

But then, from the second time, I got the "key code" message.

And what I found out, strangely enough, is that the problem doens't appear if, before trying to go multiplayer, you activate a solo game.

Hope this helps.

Phil

I have the same problem. I cannot find com.aspyr.callofduty4.plist/com.aspyr.callofduty2.plist on my Mac. It just isn't there! And I'm positive I've looked for it in the right places!

Phil, what do you mean with "solo game" ? Do you mean single player or starting your own multiplayer game. Can you explain a little better?

Indeed, Mani, I meant single player game.

But actually, the problem has disappeared. I have no problem connecting to multiplayers game anymore. And it's a lot of fun.

Let me know if you found a solution.

Recently I bought your game Call of Duty 4 from the mac app store.

I have the problem that's described above. I have never played multiplayer before, but I can't seem to find the com.aspyr.callofduty4.plist file in the User/Library/Preferences folder. I have played 1 single player mission and I have everything on my mac up to date.

Hope to get a reaction very soon,

Regards

hi,

i just bought COD for mac via aspyr on ebay and when i turn the game on it doesn't ask for the key code which is weird and the servers dont appear. In addition, i have tried installing it via 'STEAM' and it says that the game key cod is INVALID.

i've been told to ask for help here from ebay aspyrgame.

Thanks for the help i found out that on mac lion you need to

press command f

type in ~/library (a hidden folder on the user names files)

then go to preferences drag out the com.aspyr.callofduty4.plist

it should work then.

thanks for the advice peoples

Alright all this is how u fix it.

go to finder click on go and scroll to go to finder

click this and type in      ~/library

this is a hidden folder to those that have lion snow leopard i don't know

get into this folder and look for preferences

then look for com.aspyr.callofduty4.plist

place this in trash and then the game should work well it does for the 100s that play it.

hope you all enjoy this

Gentlemen,

Finally the problem is solved "In Coincidence"

I was frustrated from this problem so I open my "AppCleaner" and I chose COD4 to remove from my computer, then the software start to search all related files and I found that "com.aspyr.callofduty4.plist" in the list so I select individually to delete it then I run the game as single player for a while then I switched back to multiplayer successfully.

If you have any question please let me know

I had the same problem. I found the solution, i have a Macbook Air with Lion.

What you need to do is go to your desktop and press cmd+shift+g at the same time

That will open a window with a search bar, type in:  ~/library

go to preferences<and search for com.aspyr.callofduty4.plist just scroll down looking carefully

drag it to your trash can and delete it. only delete this one not the other fancy ones with the same name.

Just launch the game, go to multiplayer and you should be good to go without launching solo.

Worked for me.
