Serial number check failed

SYMPTOMS:
When you try to launch the game you get a "Serial number check failed" message.

RESOLUTION:
This usually happens if you uninstall the game, then reinstall it.
If you get rid of the "HW2setup.pkg" file located in Library/receipts this should allow you to get past this message and play the game.

This did not work for me. My problem was that if I reinstalled the game I could play the fresh 1.1.0 version of the game *if* I left it in the NEW folder. However, if I patched the NEW version to 1.1.1 or moved anything (1.1.0 OR 1.1.1) to the ORIGINAL folder, I would get the same "Serial number check failed" message.

But, here is what DID work...

Installed the game again in a different location from my original folder.  From the NEW Homeworld 2 folder, I copied the folder called "release" (there was nothing inside it) inside the bin folder to the corresponding location in the ORIGINAL Homeworld 2 folder which of course overwrites the original "release" folder.  I have no clue why this worked, but it allowed me to play my original HW2 with 1.1.1 patch.  No longer received the "Serial number check failed" message.

Hope this is helpful.
