Neverwinter Nights 2 on OSX

Hi,

I recently bought NWN2 and noticed that the graphics get corrupt when I get poisoned or spells are cast. I see black squares around my character and can't seem to make them disappear.

I'm playing on a MBP 15" Intel 2.4 Core 2 Duo with 4 GB RAM with NVidia 9400M 256 MB.

Any solutions to this would be helpful as the game becomes unplayable.

Thanks!

I have the exact same problem... did you figure it out? With me it started after I changed the graphics settings. Problem is I don't remember which setting I changed. I tried reverting everything, but unfortunately it didn't work... Did you have any luck?

No, I've tried different settings as well, no luck unfortunately.

It gets more difficult to play as you advance in the game as well because a lot of spells emit fire or smoke and completely block the view.

By the way, is there anyone at Aspyr reading these?!

Is this the MacApp version?

If you submit support tickets with your system profile attached, we can see if we can replicate the issue here and try to get a solution. Have you tried playing the game in windowed mode?

Hi Jason,

It is the MacApp version, I bought it from macgamestore.com. I will be submitting the request now. I got a frame grab of the problem as well. The yellow arrows indicate the problem.

Oh and I did try to run it in windowed mode, I still have the same issue.

My version is from MacGames. I've sent in my system profile and saved game files with the glitch. I'm going to try playing it in windowed mode and see if that fixes it the problem.

Here's what's going on with my game. The character ended up with these black boxes around her after having disease cast on her. Even when I gave her an antidote potion they didn't go away and neither did the disease.

Yup, that's is pretty much exactly what happens with me too... what do you run it on? Macbook pro 15" ?

Seems we all are having the same problem.  I've tried different graphics settings, window mode, etc.  I'm running it on a 15" MacBook Pro with the nvidia 9600 graphics and 8 Gig of memory.  Black boxes on all battles, spells, etc.  Makes it virtually unplayable.

This seems to be a pretty common issue... If we were running on a PC I would assume it's a display driver issue and try rolling back to previous driver versions but since we are on Macs that is not really possible unfortunately... I hope they can sort this out because as you said, it doesn't make the game unplayable when you have wizards fighting it off and half the screen is covered in black squares.

now i am concerned was considering buying game, would this happen on newest iMac also ( late 2011 model ) ?

Also i am suspecting the " squares " could have something to do with either a driver update ( graphic card  ) or actually if you read the subscription of requirements for the game it says " NOTICE: Intel integrated video chipsets are not supported " This is from game requirements on Aspyr homepage (  http://www.aspyr.com/games/neverwinter-nights-2 ) is actually NOT written in the App Store which i think  it should be !

Looked again closely at my video card specs and it doesn't appear that it has an Intel integrated video chipset - so I don't think that's the problem. However I do agree that should be listed on the App Store so people know before buying it.

Iam speechless and so so disappointed just bought game and it is totally worthless, the camera and steering is close to impossible to control ( Easy to almost get trapped inside a house etc. unless you rely go for it with movement key´s and are lucky your character " finds " the exit ), text is so small on a Imac 27" in full solution so almost impossible to see it, also seems not to be possible to turn up mouse speed ( mouse seems slow / sluggish ).

I have not encountered any black squares, but there can appear a " yellow line " at left side of screen.

If you look under options there is a section where you can control things like the mouse speed, camera and a few other movements, plus you can change how your character moves and interacts under the different modes, character, exploration and strategy. As for the small text and the yellow line - I don't have any suggestions for you there.

I have tried to set different settings you mention but still does not help.

Bu thanks for suggestions.

Jesper,

so i had a similar problem with the camera. Changing the in-game settings didn't do anything. You'll have to go into the settings file (user/library/application support/neverwinternights2. there's a nwn2player.ini file that you'll need to change. Some of that is described here:

http://nwn2.wikia.com/wiki/Camera

The setting you want to change I think is the camera edge turn setting. I've had to go to below 1. I've attached my .ini file if you want to have a look.

About the small fonts - I think you'll have to set the game to a lower resolution (ie, smaller window). That should do the trick...

Good luck!

Mind you, it's not just the min & max you'll have to change...

How do i explain this.... uhmmmm...

well i deleted the .ini cause i wanted to use yours :-)

But every settings in game are exactly the same  and nothing changed in game either, so still got camera problem.

New problem is i thought i would reset it all, so deleted game and downloaded + reinstalled it, but guess what every settings is exactly same as before i deleted game-downloaded-reinstalled, but now there is no ini anywhere on mac.

Hmmm..  did you delete the neverwinter nights 2 folder in the application support folder (library) before you reinstalled the game? You didn't do a backup of your old .ini file by any chance?

And you've tried copying my .ini file into the folder?

December 20, 2011 12:08 pm.
User photo

Found the original game .ini, then deleted it and putted yours into same place, started the game but nothing was changed in settings, then i thought i would reset everything by deleting the .ini file ( thought it would automatically make a new one when starting game ), but now there was no .ini nowhere.

Therefore i once more deleted hole game and then reinstalled cause i thought that this sure would make a new .ini file but..... no, game is now running without a .ini file and still got exactly same settings.

Definitely DO NOT go tinkering with files unless an actual Aspyr Support agent walks you through the process. If you do it yourself you are likely to make things worse

It looks like we found the problem and it should be a relatively easy fix. Of course we will need to make a patch and this takes time. No ETA yet, but I will keep you all updated here when I know more info.

I second that question - where is the patch for those of us who put in a ticket about this problem and purchased the game from Mac Store or Mac App? Are you working on it still? I hope so.

If you purchased the game from AppStore you dont need this patch. All other digital versions do.

This patch specifically addresses a graphic corruption issue that specifically occur on digital versions of the game that were not purchased on the AppStore.

I purchased NWN2 in a bundle from MacUpdates.  I don't know if that is considered to be "from the app store" but the black boxes are definitely there.  I tried to run the "fix" mentioned earlier and it made no difference! The black box corruption is exactly the same.  What now????

By "AppStore" I mean the app purchasing application built into the Mac OS. If you downloaded the game there, you do not need the patch. If you downloaded the game anywhere else you do......so you DO need the patch if you downloaded the game from MacUpdate. If you properly installed the patch and you are still having issues, contact us so we can help you out.

hello,

I have fresh Mac Mini (2011)  with Pentium2.4Ghz, Intel graphics and 8 Gb of memory.

When I play, all dialogs with sounds is  silent, only text on screen. - subtitles, the text of the game.

Sound of dialogs is important in this game, without it - i can not use this product.

What now?

I must wait for the fix, how long/

Or simply buy a  normal PC game?

Haven't heard any more about a fix for the "black boxes" problrm.  Did the latest "fix" work for anyone? I ran the "fix" as suggested and got no change. Since I reported that back, I've heard nothing. Still can't play the game I paid for guys!

Yes, it worked for me. I got the game from macgamestore.com and it works perfectly. The patch does not support the version purchased from the Apple App Store...

I want to buy this game , and today price on Mac AppStore - 4.99$

This  a page of game in Mac AppStore -

MacStore want to take from my credit card  19.99$, not a 4.99$

http://s018.radikal.ru/i516/1201/ed/7c84bc096628.jpg

But I see other price in my order - 19.99$, when I try to buy.

What is it, and what I must think?

I'd like to buy this game, but am not sure about the compatibility of my graphics card.

Is the NVIDIA GeForce 9400 compatible with this game?

I am still having the "black square" problem and have not heard anymore from you regarding the fix.  I have tried all of your suggestions and still can't play my purchased game.  Since you don't seem to be able to fix the problem, why don't you send me a link to a fresh version of the game that I could install after removing the unplayable version that I paid for?
