KOTOR iOS FAQ

Q: Is KOTOR iOS getting an update for iPhone X displays?

A: We're currently investigating an update to optimize KOTOR on iPhone X models as well as address the iOS 12 launching issue.  Follow this article for alerts when more info is added to it.

Q: Are there any plans for KOTOR 2 Mobile?
A: As much as we'd love nothing more than to play the Sith Lords on the go, there's no plans for it. Please forgive us.

Q: What iPad version do I need to play KOTOR?
A: KOTOR for the iPad is supported on the iPad 2 or newer.

Q: What iOS version do I need to play KOTOR?
A: KOTOR for the iPad will work on iOS 6 or newer.

Q: What iPhone type do I need to play KOTOR?

A: KOTOR Universal will run on the iPhone 4S or newer.

Q: Is KOTOR for the iPad localized in any other language other than English?
A: Text and subtitle support for French, Italian, German, and Spanish.  It is required that your iOS language is changed to the desired language in order for it to be enabled in game.

Q: When I try to move with my character, my hand is in the way. Any way around this?
A: You can move your character with your hand gestures from nearly anywhere on the screen. We like to position our hand to the far left or right of the screen, so we can see the classic Star Wars environment better.

    Good Morning!

Ok those of you with sound issues here is what you need to do:

On your iPad: go to SETTINGS>GENERAL>USE SIDE SWITCH TO

    and set it to MUTE.

Then toggle the MUTE switch on the iPad to make sure you are not muted.

Having this function set improperly will not mute your whole iPad (you can still play some Apps and listen to music etc).

You are basically just defining the behavior for the mute toggle on the side of your iPad.

Hope this helps. enjoy the game.

We are also getting some questions and concerns about movement problems.

There are many movement options in game if people want to customize their experience.

These are found under Options > Gameplay (either from the Main Menu or in-game under the Options tab).

I've read in the TouchArcade forums that you can substitute the language archive from the PC version to set the game to other languages. Are you thinking about making the PC language archives available for download? Sure, there will be things like "click on the left button to..." instead of "touch on the number to...", but I'm sure people would understand the game in their mother tongue (with those PC-specific words) much better than in English. Thanks.

Frankbrown221 Yavin Station is present .

Dani As far as languages go, we only support English language and do not recommend replacing or tinkering with any files.

We dont currently have plans for localization right now.

Sorry Gee. Unfortunately, there is no cancel movement command.

Gee Lampa As far as I know, there never was.

Daniel As stated above in this thread:

If the download is failing, you might want to log out of your AppStore account and try to log back in. We can't really do much about connectivity issues with the AppStore. If problems persist after logging out of your AppStore account, I recommend contacting Apple.

Daniel, google for corrupted downloads on iPad. Maybe it's the download registry that is corrupted in your iPad. You have to access the download log through iExplorer or similar. Happens sometimes. It's not game related, but Apple related. Same goes for iTunes downloads: try re-setting Internet Explorer as the default web browser. It sometimes fixes the impossibility of downloading programs. I know, relationship between iTunes and IE sounds silly, but it works. And again, it's not game related, but Apple related.

Okay, let's get to the important part- are there any cheats?

Hey ladies and gents, Matt here, I was the QA Lead on this project so I thought I'd pipe in with a few tidbits.

Gee, just to clarify on canceling movement, some objects when selected won't let you cancel.  Others, if you swipe and hold in a different direction will allow you to stop moving to the object. It's a bit hit-or-miss which ones will or won't, so tap carefully.

It basically mimics the behavior of the PC/Mac version, where you can stop moving but it requires a bit of effort.

Art, no cheats for this, but, with ten years of people playing it, the internet is bursting at the seams with helpful tips and tricks to get you through.

Right - I've been ruthless with my 16gb ipad 4 and deleted loads to get up to 4.5gb free and it still says I do not have enough free storage. Could anyone please tell me how much I actually need to install as it is certainly not only 1.98gb x 2.

Also could you explain what 'installing the app to your computer first' means?

    Thanks.

Hey, just want to say that the port is great, except for the movement controls. Is there any chance of adding a virtual joystick in the future? Aside from that, it's great.

  • Avatar
    Dani

@Tim Middleton: it means download it from iTunes instead of from the iPad. I did it because I had 3.2GB free. It installed perfectly and now I have 1.1GB free approx. I've read that with 4.5GB free, people have been able to install it.

I love the controls as they are. Move the finger left or right anywhere on the screen and the camera turns. If you move the finger up, the character begins to move. If you move it down, it slows down. It's just different to the typical onscreen dual joysticks. I got used to it very fast.

Is there a making of iPhone compatible app?

Tim, like Dani said, installing on your computer first refers to downloading the app through iTunes on your Mac or PC, then connecting your iPad and installing through iTunes. If that's not an option, I think 5 GB of space should be sufficient, bearing in mind that once it's installed, that extra space will be freed back up so you can re-install anything you had to ditch for space.

Bassboy, download issues are generally a question for Apple, but it might be worth trying what was just mentioned, downloading on your PC/Mac and installing through iTunes. WiFi connections can vary wildly so your problem may have something to do with that. On a good connection I've found that the app downloads and installs in about 30-45 minutes.

I can't access the game at all. Downloaded yesterday (after deleting tons of files on my iPad just for this). I get into the player screen, pick my character, customize (or go with ready made character) and the game quits. It just totally shuts down and drops me at the iPad home screen. I have the latest gen iPad with latest OS. I are disappoint.

Bob, if you go to Load Game, you should have an autosave in there as well. You might lose a little time, but it might save you from having to start an entirely new game. I would definitely recommend creating manual saves(going to Options menu and selecting Save Game) as you progress through the game, and not relying entirely on Auto-saves and Quick-saves. It will save a lot of headaches.

Nik, like Dani said, there aren't any plans at this time, but I'm sure we'll at least consider any changes that can improve the experience for our customers.

Kris, that's not a problem I've heard of before now. Have you tried clearing the game from memory and restarting it? By that I mean double-clicking the iPad's Home button to bring up the multi-tasking bar and closing the game there.

If that doesn't work it could be that the download itself was corrupted somehow. It's pretty rare for that to happen, but with such a large file it is possible. In that case it would simply be a matter of deleting and re-installing the game.

Be sure to keep us informed, and let me know if you still get the same problem.

I've already purchase and download the apps in ipad mini but when i play the game, the game always crash when i try to save the game, can you fix this problem

I couldn't resist purchasing this the moment I saw it available. I will be getting my own ipad soon. Is there a way for save progress to transfer over to it without restoring the old iPad's data to the new one? I just do not want to get so far in and not be able to continue on my personal device. Thank you!

Downloaded ok to my iPad mini after a few error messages (can't load app right now or something like that). Will not load to my iPad 3 which has more free space. Loads perhaps 5% and then gives that same error. Logging out and in doesn't help. Rebooting doesn't help. What gives?

The game is running great on my iPad3 and iPad Mini. What I need is a way to transfer saves between the two. The game supports backing up the save data in iTunes but there does not seem to be a good way to transfer them back up. Adding files is a file at a time and does not allow selecting where the file goes. I know you guys did not develop the iTunes side of things but if there is a way to transfer saves it would be good to include. I expect iCloud support is too much of a stretch for the amount of data.

How to Pull saves from iPad:

    1. Connect iPad to PC/Mac with iTunes.

    2. Select the iPad in iTunes.

    3. Go to Apps tab and select KOTOR app in File Sharing.

    4. Select the KOTOR folder and select 'Save to...' button. 5. Save to Desktop (or other location).

How to add saves to iPad:
    1.

Connect iPad to PC/Mac with iTunes.

    2.

Place save folder in a folder with path: KOTOR/saves/

    (Capitalization matters).
    3.

    Compress the KOTOR folder.

    4.

    In iTunes select the iPad.

    5.

Navigate to Apps tab and select KOTOR in File Sharing.

    6.

Drag KOTOR.zip to the File Sharing window.

    7.

    Launch KOTOR.

NOTE: If there are a lot of saves, the unzipping will take some time,
sitting on a black screen. DO NOT close the app while it is unzipping

Jeff, warning on transferring saves this way, after you launch the game it will unzip to put your saves there, but it will also unzip them every time you launch. So after you've launched once, go back to iTunes and delete the zip file from your iPad, otherwise it will overwrite those saves every time with the state they were in when zipped. Not a problem if you are creating brand new saves every time, but if you are overwriting the same saves (and Auto/Quick saves always overwrite the same file), deleting the zip will avoid a lot of headaches.
