Aspyr Mac FAQs: Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® 2 and Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® 3

With the release of Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® 2 and Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® 3, Mac gamers now have access to the complete Call of Duty: Modern Warfare trilogy. However, you probably have some questions about the latest games in the series before jumping into some epic multiplayer matches, so we’ve compiled a list below that we hope provides the info you’re looking for. And if not, let us know in the comments!

Q: Will Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 for Mac support Steam Play?

Yes, both games and all accompanying DLC support Steam Play, meaning you only have to purchase the game content once to get it on all supported platforms (i.e. Mac OS and Windows).

Q: Will Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 for Mac be available through the Mac App Store?

There are currently no plans to release a Mac App Store version of either Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

Q: Will any of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 DLC content be available at launch for the Mac?

Yes, all released DLC is available to Mac gamers as of the launch of both base games.

Q: Do Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 for Mac feature multiplayer? What about cross-platform multiplayer?

Yes, both games for Mac are fully-featured and include both competitive multiplayer and the cooperative multiplayer mode Spec Ops.

Cross-platform multiplayer is available for competitive multiplayer mode only at this time and is not available in Spec Ops mode.

Q: Will I be able to sync my game saves between the PC and Mac version?

While it is technically possible to manually transfer saved single player data between a Mac and a PC for either Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, it is an unsupported feature due to the increased potential for file and game corruption. Players may attempt to transfer saved data at their own risk.

For clarity, single player saved data includes both progression through the single player campaign and Spec Ops data.

On the other hand, competitive multiplayer data (rank, weapon unlocks, etc.) is saved on the server-side IWnet and thus always works cross-platform. If you have achieved a certain rank on one platform, you will retain that rank on the other.

Q: What languages do Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 for Mac support?

Both games feature support for English, French, Italian, German, and Spanish.

Q: Do Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 for Mac feature gamepad support?

Neither game features any gamepad support at this time.
