Heads Up! Phones Down Edition - Twitch Extension Overview

Installing the extension on your Twitch account

  1. Log into your Twitch account.
  2. Click the link below or Copy/Paste it into your web browser: https://dashboard.twitch.tv/extensions/9j13eljds1n5zdwfzsmqa3pph0din3-0.0.5.
  3. Click Install > Activate > Set as Overlay 1 > Done.

Configuring the Extension

  1. Open Twitch.
  2. Navigate to Creator Dashboard > Extensions > My Extensions.

Click the Gear in the bottom right of the Heads Up! panel in the activated extensions section.


This is your Extension configuration page. 

Here you will find your 6-Digit Token necessary for game-to-server communication.
The Token SHOULD NOT be shared.

If necessary, you can click “Regenerate Token” to produce a new Token to use.

 

For information about the "Authorize Twitch" Button, scroll down to the Enabling the Chatbot section.

 

To link Heads Up! Phones Down Edition to the Twitch extension, copy the 6-digit token and paste it into the in-game Twitch menu:

  1. Launch Heads Up: Phones Down Edition.
  2. At the Main Menu, navigate to Settings > Twitch.
  3. You should see this page.

  4. In the Authorize input field, paste or type your 6-digit token.
    • The input field is censored by default and the real characters can only be seen by pressing the Show button.
      • Keep in mind this token should NOT be shared with your viewers so make sure that you don’t press it while streaming!
      • Note: Tokens that start with W, A, S, and D cannot be typed in at this time. You will need to copy/paste the token or generate a new token.
  5. Once you copy your 6-digit token into the Twitch settings menu, click ‘Authorize’ to enable the Twitch integration.
    • Note: The “Enable Twitch Mode” toggle will automatically turn on when the connection to Twitch is authorized.
    • Your Token can be Deauthorized from this page if you’d like to remove connectivity.
    • Once authorized, you can then select one of the two game modes as well as enable/disable the “Auto-Advance Chat” feature.

The extension is now connected! The next sections will walk you through how the extension works in-game and how to enable the chatbot.

 

Game Mode Overview

Streamer Guesses

In this game mode the word is presented in-stream to the viewers and hidden from the streamer. Viewers put their hints in the chat to help the streamer guess the word.

The correct word is automatically blocked in-chat to prevent viewers from typing in the correct answer directly. It is also recommended that the Streamer disable the Show Moderator Actions chat setting by clicking the gear icon located below their chat.

 



When the streamer guesses the word correctly, the streamer can advance the word through in-game controls. Moderators for the channel can also use the !advance_word chat feature when the Streamer guesses correctly.

 


Chat Guesses

In this game mode the word is shown to the streamer via the chatbot window in-browser. The streamer proceeds to act out the word or give hints and the viewers type their word guesses in the chat.


For this mode, we recommend enabling the Chatbot. With this enabled, correct guesses will be detected automatically. At the end of the round, viewers who guessed correctly will be displayed on the scorecard.


If Auto-Advance Chat is enabled the game proceeds to the next word automatically once the correct word is guessed. The chatbot window needs to remain active to use this feature. More details on how to enable the chatbot can be found in the next section.

 

 

Enabling the Chatbot

This feature is recommended for the “Viewer Guesses” game mode.

This chatbot will auto-advance to the next word once a viewer guesses correctly and will also shoutout the correct guesser in chat! Follow the steps below to enable the chatbot:

  1. Navigate to the Extension Configuration Panel (as seen in the Configuring the Extension section).
  2. Click “Authorize Twitch”
  3. You will land on this page:

  4. Click “Twitch OAuth”
    1. You will be directed to the official twitch authorization page.
  5. Once you have read the permissions information, click “Authorize”.

Your account is now authorized and the chatbot is active. Keep this window open, it will be used to play the game. 

 

Chatbot Window:

The Chatbot Window changes depending on which game mode is active. Below you can see examples of both game modes. DO NOT share this window to your stream. This is for Streamer’s Use only.

Note To Streamers: Hide this window when playing the “Streamer Guesses” mode so that you don’t cheat and see the correct answers!
